Blue Mountains with kids…

Echo Point Lookout (Three Sisters) - Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia

This was by far my favourite trip that we did last year. We usually favour heading north, or heading somewhere close to the ocean so it was soooooo amazing to wake up and breathe in that cold, fresh mountain air for a change 🌬️

I was only a few weeks pregnant on this trip and I am not sure if all those beautiful mama bear pregnancy hormones were causing me to be hyper-vigilant, but OH MY GEEEEE looking down or even just over and out when we got to Echo Point lookout caused my tummy to turn into huge knots 😵

The view though, just breathtaking, honestly.

You can feel a deep sense of spirit here. It’s an incredibly special part of the world 🌏

#TravelWithUs to the Blue Mountains below, where I share my full review of where we stayed and what we got up to in greater detail.

🏠 WHERE WE STAYED:

For our stay in the Blue Mountains, a convenient and scenic location was our priority and our Airbnb did NOT disappoint. Our @airbnb was in the BEST location and as you can see from this video, it had THE MOST spectacular view across the canyon.

The house - named "Luxurious Mountain View Echo Point" is within walking distance (and I mean just a few houses down) to the famous 3 Sisters viewing lookout, Echo Point, and many popular hiking trails. The bus stop is a 3-minute walk away and Scenic World is only a 5-minute trip.

The bedding configuration was 1 x Queen bed and 2 x Singles, the host was friendly and helpful, the heating was toasty warm, the beds were comfy and all had electric blankets. The kitchen and bathroom were modern and the cottage as a whole was a great place to stay, and it has a 4.91⭐️ rating on Airbnb.

As far as location goes, our @airbnb could not have been more perfect! And THAT VIEW!!! If you're thinking about going I would highly recommend this property.

🗺 OUR 4 DAY ITINERARY:

Day 1 - On our first day, we arrived mid-afternoon and used this time to take in the view of our Airbnb and walk to Echo Point lookout.

Day 2 - The next day we ticked off the obvious tourist checklist, like the Scenic Railway down into the Jamison Valley where we took some easy walking trails, then rode the cableway back up the mountain before watching the sunset over the 3 Sisters at Echo Point lookout (again).

Day 3 - We decided to leave Jenolan Caves for another trip, so on the 3rd day we drove into Katoomba town centre. I am a sucker for vintage/antique shopping and the main street of Katoomba is antique shopping PARADISE! Someone stop me! (Someone did stop me. My husband, James stopped me 😂)

Day 4 - Travelling home northbound, we took a short detour and did some easy bushwalking trails to view the beautiful Wentworth Falls, before hopping in the car to return home.

🍽 WHERE WE ATE:

Our Son has a really tight (and early) bedtime routine so we took some groceries and cooked our own dinners for the duration of this trip. However, we ventured into town for coffee and breaky every day and the highlight lunch experience for us was stumbling upon this underground retro diner on the main street of Katoomba - @whoisauntyed 🍔
The decor, the menu - it was like stepping back in time and after all that antique shopping, the whole day felt like a nostalgic trip down my Grandmothers memory lane 😍

⛅️ WHEN WE TRAVELLED:

We decided to travel at the end of April. It was cold enough to have the gas heater on at night and enjoy those beautiful crisp mornings you only get in the mountains. The days were mild, perfect walking weather. If you're thinking about travelling during this time period, now (September) would be the best time to book your trip.

Beautiful Autumn leaves

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 MY TRAVEL TIPS FOR FAMILIES:

At Scenic World you'll be asked to decide how you want to get down the mountain and how you want to come back up. The descent into the Jamison Valley is steeper than you might think so to really get the most out of the experience, my advice would be to take the Scenic Railway (the steepest passenger railway in the world) down and ride the Cableway back up.

The walking trails taking us from the bottom of the Scenic Railway, up to the Cableway

As you would expect, it's an adventurous trip with lots of walking involved. The main tourist areas are obviously suitable for a pram, but to really get the full experience of this incredible part of the world, you have to take the hiking/walking trails and for this, with young ones, I would recommend taking kids under 2 (in carriers) or older kids who could confidently last a whole day of exploring on foot.

In hindsight, our Son being 4 at the time was probably not the best age. He didn't have enough energy to withstand the long walking days and found watching the sunset over the utterly breathtaking Jamison Valley "soooooo borrrrriiingg"... 🙄😂

Taking older kids who might appreciate the adventure more or bubbas who are lighter to carry and don't require the type of play with toys or peers like our little guy did, would be much more suitable for this trip, I think.

In dad’s arms. Always.

If you haven't done this trip as a family yet, I highly recommend adding it to your list.
